The Journey Continues...

Well, after a good night's sleep I was in a suprisingly good mood this morning. We got up and had an early breakfast at the hotel after carefully repacking the truck. Today's plan was to drive all the way acrossed Iowa and stop in Sioux City, IA for the night. This would give us roughly 375 miles of driving so hopefully we wouldn't be completely exhausted.
We made a quick stop at the "Iowa 80" truck stop. It is the self-proclaimed largest truck stop in the world and the title seems correct. It had 3 floors of souvenirs and other junki in addition to an in-house dental office, alterations, laundrymat, showers, and other areas. After an unreasonably long break here (SweetPea might have been hunting for me while I browsed junk!) we were back on the road.

Near Des Moines I noticed a landmark on the map that I knew SweetPea wanted to see. When we rolled into Winterset, Iowa we saw this fella hanging out in the town square looking like he was up to no good...

Apparently, bridges aren't the only popular thing in Madison county. Turns out The Duke still holds his own! We didn't actually go in but I had to grab a couple pics for Mom and Dad.

So, we were headed to Winterset because I realized that it was the filming location and basis for the movie "The Bridges of Madison County".

Unfortunately, we didn't have a lot of information so we were unaware of exactly which bridge we were supposed to go to. Turns out, there are 3 bridges in the area. Wouldn't you know, we picked the bridge that was NOT filmed for the movie! Poor SweetPea! You really can't even tell the difference between it and the one filmed, but oh well.
